Words Description
Aarti- Singing about a particular god-a ceremony for greeting Lord with offering of food, lamps, fans, flowers and incense accompanied by chanting.
Adikavi - Valmiki.
Adikavya - The First poetry book-Ramayana in Sanskrit written by Sage Valmiki.
Adishakti- Parvati.
Aditi - And Kashyap gave birth to gods- reborn as Kaushlaya and Dashrath -parents of Rama.
Adornment - Female-Sixteen (solah shringar)
1. Rubbing and cleaning the body with unguents.
2. Ablution.
3. Putting on a new attire.
4. Dyeing the sides of one’s feet with red lag .
5. Dressing the hair.
6. Adoring the parting line of the hair with red lead.
7. Painting the forehead with streaks of sandal paste.
8. Dotting the chin with a small black spot .
9. Colouring the palms of one’s hand and the soles pf one’s feet with the reddish dye extracting from the leaves of the Mehndi plant.
10. An inting one’s body with perfumed unguents.
11. Adoring the body with bejewelled ornaments.
12. Beautifying the hair etc. with wreaths of flowers.
13. Perfuming and dyeing one’s mouth by chewing betel leaves.

Agastya- A sage-begotten of God Varuna through a pitcher- drank up the ocean in three draughts- known as Khumbhaja.
Agony - Three types:
1. That inflicted by other living being.
2. That proceeding from natural cause.
3. That caused by bodily or mental distemper.
Ahilya- Transformed into a rock by the curse of her husband Gautama and was restored to her human form by the very touch of Rama’s feet- emerged a true embodiment of austerity and went to her husband’s abode full of joy.
Ahiravna - And Mahiravna (Brothers )i.e Cousins of Ravna i.e His Mother’s sister’s sons .
Airavat - Elephant of God-Indra.
Ajamila - A fallen Brahmana who was saved from hell by chanting the name of Lord Narayan at the time of death-Narayan was the name of his son.
Akampan- Son of Ravana. Ambika - Parvati.
Amravati - Capital of God Indra- the city of immortals.
Amrit - Nectar. Anang- Kamdev.
Angad - Son of Vali-nephew of Sugriva-went to Lanka after construction of the bridge Ramsetu and was brought before Ravana-planted his foot in the midst of the whole assembly and asked Ravana to stir it but no body could do it.
Angira -Son of Brahma. Anjanisut- Hanuman.
Anranya - King of Ayodhya- descendent of Ikshvaku.
Ansuya- Wife of sage Atri.

Arimarda- Son of Satyaketu-reborn as Kumbhkaran.
Arudhanti-Wife of Guru Vashishta.

Ashok Vriksha-A tree- Sita lived under it for one year in Lanka.
Ashvini kumars -Twin born gods- Vaidya of demi-gods-celestialPhysicians
Asura-Atheistic demon- non devotee- a person opposed to the service of the Lord.
Atikaya - Son of Ravana- slain by Lakshmna.
Atmaram Dubey- Father of Goswami Tulsidas - the writer of Ramcharitmanas.
Atri-Son of Brahma- Rishi living at Chitrkoot. Avadhpati -Rama
Avatara- An incarnation of Godhead who descends from the spiritual world for a particular mission.
Ayodhya-Situated at Saryu river- Kingdom of King Dashratha - The birth place of Rama.
Ayodhyakand -Second chapter of Ramcharitmanas.

Badrinath- In Himalayas.
Baikunthpur- The abode of Vishnu.
Bali -The demon king acquired dominion over all the three worlds. Lord Vishnu was born as a son to Aditi in the form of a dwarf Vaman. He asked alms to Bali. Vaman wanted as much land as he could measured in three strides-in one stride he measured the whole earth and covered heaven with another . For the third step Lord Vaman planted his foot on the blessed demon and sent him down to the subterranean region ( Sutala ).

Banyan- Known as Aksayavata Tree- favourite of Shiva.
Bela tree- Sacred to Shiva.
Bhagirath- A king brought down the celestial river Ganga- had practice austere penance for one thousand years.
Bharat - Son of Dashrath and Kakaiye- step-brother of Rama- married Mandvi- installed on the throne of Ayodhya the wooden sandals of the Lord Rama in Nandigram - erected a hut of leaves at Nandigram and took up his abode there wearing a tuft of a matted locks on his head and clad in hermit’s robes- dug the earth low and spread there on a litter of kusa grass- practiced rigid vow of hermits for fourteen years when Rama was exiled
Bharat Milap- Meeting of Rama and Bharat after fourteen Years.
Bhardwaj- A Rishi who lived in his hermitage in Prayag- listened the story of Ramayna from Muni Yagvalkya.
Bhavani- Durga, Parvati, Sati, performed penance-quitted her body.
Bheel - A tribe of people.
Bhrigu- Son of Brahma.
Bhrigupati - Parshuram.
Bhujagraj- Shiva.
Bindumadhava -The diety presiding over Prayag.
Boar - Lifted the earth out of the water in which the demon Hirnayaksa had submerged - killed Hiranayakasa.
Body- Our body made of five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Ether and Air.
Brahma- The Creator-The first created living being- with four faces-eight eyes- who creates the planets and the bodies for all species of life- born from the naval-lotus of Vishnu-Prajapati-created the creatures of water-
Absolute ,incomparable,unspeakable,all-pervading, indivisible, unbegotten, attributeless, desireless, and without name or form.
Abode Satyalok, Brahmulok.
Father of 10 sons:- Marichi , Atri , Angira, Pulastya,Polaha , Kratu, Bhrigu , Vashisht , Daksh and Narad
Brahaman- Four stages of life :-
1.Brahmacharya ( student 2. Garhasthya ( Married Life);
3.Vanaprastha ( Asceticism); 4.Sanyasa ( Renunciation).
Brahamlok - Abode of God Brahma.
Brahmana - A person wise in Vedic knowledge .
Brahmsatra- Meghnad bound Hanuman with it .
Breeze- (Trividh Sameer ) cool, soft, and fragrant .
Bridge - Rama installed an emblem of Shiva and worship near the Bridge Ramsetu at Rameshwaram built by Nal and Neel ( brothers ) for Rama to cross the ocean and reach Lanka. It was one hundred Yojan in length and Ten Yojan in Breadth-,it was made of rocks but rocks did not sink.
